Welcome to the new “Members Only” website

Why should you care??

We will try and explain the benefits in an easy way. First of all, follow the instructions and send in your request to ASA and you will get your login approved.  This may seem tedious but means that only financial members are allowed in.  At your first login, you will notice that it looks very like our normal website but it has so much more. On the left hand side you will see the navigation bar in blue with the list of areas.  Many are repeats from the main page but if you open them up you will find they now contain information that is often not on the public page.  We have made sure that all the latest forms are on this site for you and that you now have access to Member Resources not available on the main site. Now let’s talk about our special surprise.

What is a forum??

For all you computer illiterates out there (most of us), a forum or bulletin board is a way of having a conversation with other audiologists.  It is not done in real time (chat rooms) but allows you to post messages and answer other people’s questions.  Remember when we used to have the old “clinical nuts and bolts” section in the newsletters? Well this is the 21st century version of that.

There are several different groups and as time progresses we will consider adding other groups as member requests come in.  So here is a brief introduction to them.

General discussion:  This is where you ask those “stupid” questions you have been meaning to ask but didn’t quite know who to ask.  “How do I get impression material out of my silk shirt?”  and so many other things.  You can also leave advice you think others might be interested in  “Theatre of the Deaf visiting … town this week”

OHS: this is not a direct link to OHS, it is designed for members who do this type of work to discuss issues.  Please remember that this does not replace advice given to you by OHS.  It is just a discussion area.

Private practice audiologist:  What’s going on in private practice?  “what software do you use for appointment pages?”, “who’s the best supplier of …”, “how much do you spend on your staff for Christmas drinks?” and serious stuff as well.

Special Interest Groups, - to start with this has four topics:

Paediatrics:  “what’s the best way to tie a kid down for VRA?”, “do you put kids with Eustachian tube dysfunction back for recall and how many months?”, and endless other questions.

Universal Newborn Hearing Screening:  “I have seen a kid from NSW who now lives in SA. Who do I inform that for their review?”. “Does a child who had LBW get a review hearing test when they are 12 months old in Queensland?” and anything else.

Hospital Based Audiologist:  “Who would like to write the clinical scope of practice documents?”.  What’s a normal pay rate for a 4th year out audiologist?” ….and the story goes on.

Overseas Based audiologists:  “Anyone in Dublin want to catch up for a drink this weekend?”. “Is there any work in England at the moment and which company should I go through?” and “Does anyone want to read some Tinnitus articles with me and have a journal club session about it to earn our CPD points?”

Code of Conduct:

We ask members to use the forum as a means of communication and to respect all members as you would if you met them face to face in a public forum.  Rude language, insults and false information will not be tolerated.  Moderators will regularly check each board to check that messages are meeting these rules and we will consider removal of messages that breach these rules.  It is also not the place to be selling products, advertising jobs, or denigrating other services.  All members have a login ID that ASA is aware of, so although your name may not be displayed on your messages, depending on your profile, the ASA will know who is writing the messages.

Sounds great hey!!!   Please log in and start some chatting going and make use of all those clever members out there.  You are not as alone as you thought.
